ISLE OF PALMS, SC (December 18, 2016) -- As a
heavy fog rolled in on the Isle of Palms for Sunday’s
final round of the Ford Picard Christmas Classic; the
54 junior golfers got to experience true links style
golf. The weather never broke and challenged the
players with low visibility and windy conditions for
the entire day at the Wild Dunes Resort Links
Course.
Kevin Burris (Conway) posted a 1-over 71 to
take the boys title by two shots. He was in a playoff
last year for the same title and closed the deal with a
solid two birdie round for the 2016 version.
Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill) also had two birdies in
her round to shoot a 2-over 72 on the trying day to
win the overall girls title. Her sister; Jaelyn won the
title back to back in 2013 and 14 and now the
younger sibling also has a Picard Junior Classic title.
With perfect conditions for the opening round,
the duo of Jackson and Jay Cole captured the team
portion of the championship with a 10-under-par 60.
The Ford Parent Child utilized a two person captain’s
choice format over the renowned Links Course of the
resort. Jackson Cole won the individual event last
year in a playoff and kept the tradition alive by
partnering with his dad to win the team title. They
had one eagle and eight birdies on the day to win by
one shot.
Ironically, Kevin Burris and his partner won the
team event last year and Jackson Cole won the
individual title. This year, they switched titles with
the Coles winning the team title this year and Kevin
taking the boys championship.
