Cole and Howell win South Carolina Four-Ball
Preston Cole and Bryce Howell won the South Carolina Four-Ball
SPARTANBURG, South Carolina (May 29, 2016) -- Preston Cole and Bryce Howell held off the team of Taylor Ingle and Chris Mitchell for a 1-up victory to claim the title in the 2016 SCGA Four Ball Championship at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
Under cloudy skies and a steady rain, the two teams took to the course early and started hot as Ingle and Mitchell jumped to an early lead with a birdie on the opening hole. Cole and Howell answered right back making birdies on the par four 2nd and par three 3rd holes to take a one up lead. Taylor and Mitchell were able to get it back to all square after a par on the long 216 yard 6th hole.
The two teams stayed at square, trading pars until Mitchell made birdie on the drivable par four 11th hole. That’s when the Preston Cole show started. Cole, a recent graduate from Furman University, went on to birdie holes 12, 14, 15, and 16 to give his team a two hole advantage heading into the 17th. Doing all they could, Ingle and Mitchell managed to get back within one with a birdie on the 17th, but couldn’t complete the comeback after both teams made par on the final hole.

ABOUT THE
South Carolina Four-Ball
The Four Ball Championship is a great attraction as
it has become the only Match Play event that the
South Carolina Golf Association conducts. With 60
teams starting play, after two days of stroke play
qualifying, 32 teams will advance to match play to
square off against each other until there is only one
team left.
By virtue of being one of the few Match Play events
available in South Carolina, this is a great
opportunity to play in a format that used to
dominate
tournament golf.
