Beau Hossler, Texas Flex Muscle to Win Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic

CHULA VISTA, CA (March 15, 2016)--No. 7 Texas started the final round tied for the lead with No. 8 Arizona State at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic. By the time the final putt dropped at the San Diego Country Club the Longhorns were the only team left under-par for the event with a team score of 852.
Texas was led once more by the third ranked Amateur in the World junior Beau Hossler. The highly regarded Hossler finished at 8-under par to win by two. It was his fourth win of the year and sixth-straight top-8 finish.
Hossler followed rounds of 69 and 70 with a final round 69. The junior started the day with a two stroke lead but quickly expanded his lead with birdies on the first two holes. Hossler ended up birding four of his first six holes overall to take control of the tournament.
Texas was able to pull away thanks to all five players finishing in the tournaments top-15. Junior Gavin Hall (3-under par) tied for third, while redshirt sophomore Taylor Funk (2-under par) was tied for fifth. Rounding out the Longhorn lineup was 14th place finisher, sophomore Doug Ghim (3-over par), and sophomore Scottie Scheffler (4-over par) in a tie for 15th.
Finishing behind Texas in second place was New Mexico (861). Also finishing in the top-5 was third place finisher No. 22 San Diego State (868), Arizona State (871) in fourth place and California State University San Marcos (887).
In the individual standings New Mexico's Sam Kim (6-under par) finished in second place. In addition, to Hall; Nahum Mendoza III (3-under par) of San Diego State tied for third. Three players finished at 2-under in a tie for fifth.
