President Rob
RiggStaying true to its founding roots, TRUE
Linkswear offers the TRUE phx for 2012. The
phx --- short for Phoenix --- is TRUE's latest
model and, more importantly, the next step in a
rather interesting and unique approach for the
young golf shoe company.
Originally launched to provide footwear for the
legion of golfers who still prefer to walk, TRUE
hit the proverbial nail on the head with last
year's TRUE Tour, which was the shoe company
co-founder Ryan Moore wore on the PGA Tour.
For 2012, TRUE's phx takes the thought
process that makes the Tour so great and
brings it to another level altogether.
"We had some customers say, 'Hey we really
like your shoes but we want something cooler
that will really look good with shorts and
jeans,'" said Rob Rigg, President of TRUE
Linkswear. "What we have is a hybrid that you
can wear on and off the course."We think it's
much more logical."
The TRUE phx features the same Ergo-traction
2.0 sole as its predecessor, relying on smartly-
designed tread-like patterns. What separates
the phx, though, is the addition of rubber
spikes that add to traction without sacrificing
comfort. In fact, the phx, much like the Tour,
and the Stealth (True's other offering) are still
crossover shoes you can wear on and off the
course.
The shoe's outer skeleton features water-
resistant leather, True's 3D mesh liner and
insole and a memory foam heel. Like all True
models, the phx is built on the company's
trademarked barefoot platform. If you've ever
worn a True product, you know exactly what
this means: extreme comfort, plainly put.
Perhaps the most recognizable piece to the
Phoenix's puzzle are its sharp designs and
liberal color patterns. The phx comes in four
different bold color combinations plus a limited
edition white and orange creamsicle model.
Golfers can choose from black/grey,
brown/tan, white/navy and (this writer's
favorite) grey/charcoal/electric blue.
The TRUE Linkswear phx shoes for 2012 start
at $99.
