Shotaro Ban wins AGC Diablo Valley
BRENTWOOD, Calif. (March 9, 2014) -- It's quite the day for the Ban family.
Shotaro Ban, older brother of newly-crowned San Francisco City Champion Shintaro Ban, fired a final-round 66 and prevailed in a four-man playoff to win the 2014 amateurgolf.com Diablo Valley Amateur Championship presented by Callaway Golf.
In Sunday's final round at Shadow Lakes Golf Course, Ban's 5-under 66 caught first-round leader Jim Coon and forged a tie with two others. Taylor Hobin (69-68) and Patrick Grimes (73-64) also reached the playoff.
Ban, who plays his collegiate golf at Cal, made a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the title.
Daniel Griffiths shot 68-70 to finish alone in fifth place while Austen Sandoval closed with a final-round 69 to place sixth.
The net division saw a runaway victory by Concord's Vincent Steele, who carded rounds of 64-65--129.
