Palm Beach Sr. Classic: Dew wins in playoff
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (May 7, 2013) -- Robbie Dew of Palm Beach Gardens birdied the first extra hole Tuesday to win the 16th annual Palm Beach County Senior Classic at Frenchman's Reserve. Dew bested Lenny Loyd, Bob Watson and Pete Williams after they tied with par-72s in the 50-59 age group. Dew sank a 20-foot birdie putt at the par-4 18th hole after hitting pitching wedge to the green. In regulation, Dew birdied Nos. 2, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 17, inserted a double bogey at the seventh, a triple bogey at the 14th and a bogey at the 16th. Loyd had one birdie and one bogey, Watson three and three, Williams four and four. It was Dew's third Palm Beach County Golf Association victory, his first in an individual event. He won the 2008 Senior Four-Ball with Gary Mackintosh and the senior division of the Spring Four-Ball with Loyd in 2011. Two other division titles were settled by matching cards. Vic Gerard nipped Jack Mansmann in the 60-and-older flight after they matched 72s. In open net play, Dann Merrell got the nod over Lucky Carothers after they tied at 68.
