Ben Hunter and Kamaiu Johnson win a four team playoff, as Hunter poured in his 12 foot birdie putt on Friday morning
For the nineteenth consecutive year and sixty-sixth time overall The Course at Yale played host to 83 of the state’s best four-ball teams. Teams competing in the 72nd Four-Ball Championship were challenged by the difficult par 70, 6,765 yard Seth Raynor layout. The day was highlighted by the play of four teams who all shot a five under par 65.
After a rough start, the team of Rubinow/ Camera used a second nine 29 to get to the five under par mark. The team of Stupakevich/Tremaglio did not make a bogey and birdied holes 14-17 en route to their 65. The Stainbrook/ Kushner team holed out for eagle on the 11th hole, a 379 par 4, to help them match the two 65’s already in the clubhouse. Playing in the second to last group of the day, the team of Hunter/ Johnson carded six birdies against one bogey to join the three teams in the clubhouse at five under and make it a four team playoff to decide the 72nd Four-Ball Championship.
Due to darkness, the four team playoff took place this morning, August 31st. Going out in two separate groups, the Rubinow/ Camera team bogeyed the par 4, 396 yard 10th hole as the Stupakevich/ Tremaglio team made par. In the second group, the team of Stainbrook/ Kushner both left their 20 foot birdie attempts short of the hole and would eventually make par. As the last competitor to putt, Ben Hunter poured in his 12 foot birdie putt from above the hole to claim the 72nd Four Ball Championship along with his partner, Kamaiu Johnson. Hunter plays out of Sterling Farms Golf Course while Johnson plays out of the Seminole Golf Course at FSU.
The team of Szewczul/ Hermanson finished one shot back of the playoff posting a four under 66. Defending champions Smith/ Josephson also finished with a 66.
