Christmas Classic - Round 1 Results from Monterey
MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA (December 3, 2005) -- Winter officially arrived in Monterey
on Saturday, with the first 'frost delay' of the season was put into effect
at the amateurgolf.com Christmas Classic at Del Monte Golf Course. Just weeks
ago, the same location enjoyed 80 degree temperatures for the Callaway Pebble
Beach Invitational, but the unseasonable warm had to end sometime.
While the frost delayed things for an hour at the start, all 124 players finished
the round well before daylight became an issue, and one of them, Danny Buell,
managed to better par by three strokes on the tricky layout. Buell leads the
Championship Division, and is trailed by Andrew Bowdish and 2003 Christmas Classic
Champ David Nelson, both of whom shot 73.
In the Senior Division, Bob Rowland leads after a 71, and is trailed by Herb
Jensen and Mark Miller at 73. The Net Division is also bunched up, with Fred
Luper (now there's a golf name!) at 3-under-par 69 Net. He is trailed by Mike
Burgess and Joe Ceniceros at 73.
All players will tee of at 9:30am in a shotgun in Sunday's final round. Tee
assignments will be available at Del Monte before Sunday's tee off. A barbeque
will follow play. To view the top results in each division, click
