Thomas Pieters, Alex Edfort take Monroe lead

PITTSFORD, NY (June 15, 2012) -- With one round left at the Monroe Invitational, first- and second-round leader David Denlinger has been replaced. Thomas Pieters and Alex Edfort now share the top spot on the leaderboard at Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, N.Y.
Pieters, of the Univeristy of Illinois, and Edfort, of Pacific, both made up considerable ground Friday with rounds of 66 and 65, respectively. Both are at 6-under 204.
Georgia Tech’s Anders Albertson is alone in third, two shots back. Also within striking distance are three playres tied for fourth at 3 under. Those include Texas A&M’s Tyler Dunlap, Illinois’ Mason Jacobs and Denlinger, of Charleston Southern. Denlinger began the tournament with a 6-under 64 for an immediate lead, but fell down the leaderboard with second and third rounds of 71-72.
The only other players under par through 54 holes are Virginia’s Bruce Woodall (2 under) and Indiana’s Brant Peaper and Kent State’s Taylor Pendrith (1 under).

The Monroe Invitational is held at Monroe Golf Club
in Pittsford, NY, and is one of the oldest amateur
tournaments in the United States, dating back to its
first playing in 1937. The course is a Donald Ross
design that is a Golfweek Top 100 Classic Course.
The tournament is a 72 hole stroke play event with a
54 hole cut. Invitations are sent out to exempt
players in early February, but the Tournament
Committee would encourage any interested players
to apply for a non-exempt invitation through the
tournament website.
