Arlington's John Bearrie started the tournament off right with an eagle at the first hole and cruised to victory
MANSFIELD, Texas (April 22, 2012) -- John Bearrie of Arlington, TX took the lead in the opening round of the Texas Medalist tournament at Walnut Creek Country Club with a 4-under-par 67. He started his day with an eagle at the first hole and then carded 4 more birdies to stand 6-under-par through hole 10. After string of pars through 15, an unfortunate double bogey at 16 derailed his otherwise perfect round.
Bearrie's closest competitor after the first round was John Schaefer who shot an even-par 71.
AJ Morris and Ted Waldrip carded 68's in the second round but it wasn't enough to catch Bearrie who captured the title with a 1-over-par 72 and a tournament total 139.
Morris finished in second place, two back at 141 (73-68) while John Schaefer took third with a 142 (70-72.)
Bearrie is on a roll in the Medalist series. In March he won the event at Pecan Hollow by five strokes over Ted Waldrip.
