TUCSON, Ariz (Feb. 19, 2012)--Amateurgolf.com member Cyrus Whitney and partner, retired Air Force colonel Tom Sweigart, shot a 127 to take the the Roy Tatum Best Ball by one stroke over Adam Walicki and Trey Martin and the team of Greg Cesarek and Pat Geare, who shot 128.
Whitney is no stranger to the winner's circle at the Roy Tatum. In 2010 when he partnered with Matt Bergstrom, an Arizona Mid-Amateur champion, the pair won the event in a three-way playoff.
Whitney and Swiegert will continue their pursuit of titles as they plan on playing in several four-ball events together this year and will defend at the Gallery Invitational and the AGA Northern Four-Ball.
A field of about 70 teams competed in the popular 36-hole best-ball tournament at the Randolph and Dell Urich Golf Courses in Tucson. The tournament is named after the former University of Arizona golf coach Roy Tatum.
