Palmetto Amateur: Reach takes 1st-round lead

AIKEN, S.C. - Nicholas Reach shot an 8-under 62 on Thursday to build a four-shot lead after the first round of the Palmetto Amateur.
Reach, 18, of Moscow, Pa., who will be a freshman at Georgia, posted nine birdies against one bogey on the 6,713-yard Palmetto Golf Club course.
Tyler Duncan of Columbus, Ind., and Stephen Carney of Tulsa, Okla., are tied for second at 66. John Engler of Augusta, Ga., shot 67 to stand alone in fourth.
Corbin Mills, one of the amateur game's hottest players this summer after consecutive victories in the U.S. Amateur Public Links and The Players Amateur, shot 68 and is among seven golfers tied for fifth.
