Jackson Koivun is already proving that there will be no sophomore slump coming from the star golfer.
Koivun is coming off one of the best seasons in collegiate golf history. In the first tournament of the season, he leads the Inverness Intercollegiate at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, by seven shots heading into the final round.
Koivun won the 2024 Haskins Award, Ben Hogan Award, Jack Nicklaus Award, and Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner.
Koivun shot a 6-under 63 to take a three-shot lead in the first round over the loaded field that includes Auburn, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. He backed that up with a 4-under 65 to get to 10-under and take a seven-shot lead into the final round.
The sophomore recorded twelve birdies and two bogeys in the opening 36 holes at the difficult Inverness Club.
He is currently ranked No. 6 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings and was recently named to the 2024-25 Haskins Award Watch List.
Bryan Lee of Virginia and Drew Goodman of Oklahoma are T2 at 3-under, and Enrique Dimayuga of SMU, Zach Kingsland of SMU, Jackson Van Paris of Vanderbilt, and Ben James of Virginia are all T4 at 2-under.
In the team competition, defending national champions Auburn Tigers are picking up right where they left off, taking a five-shot lead at 4-under.
