Just like in 2023, the 2024 Porter Cup Invitational at Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y., came down to the final hole.
In 2023, Juan Martin Loureiro holed out a greenside bunker shot to secure the win at Niagara Falls Country Club. This year, Chase Nevins entered the final hole, the par-3 No. 18, tied at 11-under with Ryan Edholm.
Nevins hit the green with his tee shot, and Edholm flew the green. Edholm was unable to get up and down for par, and Nevins won by one shot.
Nevins was the first-round leader after a scorching 8-under 62 first round, but second and third odds of 1-under 69 and even par 70 saw the field close the gap and pass up the rising sophomore at Vanderbilt. Nevins started the day T3 and two shots back of the leaders, but a final round 2-under 68 was good enough to earn the one-shot win.
Nevins is currently ranked No. 263 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.
It was a tough day for the 54-hole leaders, as Charlie Bundy and Carter Loflin entered the day with a one-shot lead at 11-under, but a 5-over 75 by Bundy and a 6-over 76 by Loflin saw them freefall down the leaderboard and open up the door for the field.
Garrett Engle and Noah Kent joined Edholm at 10-under and T2 and one shot back from forcing a playoff with Nevins.
Shubham Jaglan finished in solo fifth place at 8-under, and rising Louisville sophomore Cooper Claycomb finished in solo sixth place at 7-under. Bundy finished in solo seventh place at 6-under, and Loflin finished in solo eighth place at 5-under.
Charlie Berridge, Rocco Salvitti, and Jack Beauchamp finished T9 at 4-under to round out the top ten.
