12 amateurs will tee it up at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland for the 2024 Open Championship in hopes of winning the Silver Medal.
In 2023, Georgia Tech's Christo Lamprecht won the silver medal after a first-round 5-under 66 to be a co-leader heading into the second round.
Here are the 12 amateurs:
Dominic Clemons – Clemons has had a great summer, starting with a 17-shot win at the Scottish Open Stroke Play Championship, where he finished 24-under. Clemons followed that up by finishing runner-up at the 2024 British Amateur and earning co-medalist honors with Justin Rose at the Final Qualifying at Burnham & Berrow.
Santiago De La Fuente – De La Fuente won the 2024 Latin America Amateur behind what he told AmateurGolf.com in April was the “second best round of his life,” shooting a 6-under 64 to earn a spot in the Master's Tournament, U.S. Open, and Open Championship.
Matthew Dodd-Berry – Similar to Clemons, Dodd-Berry made a run at the Amateur Championship but fell in the quarterfinals. However, he earned his spot in the field with an impressive performance at final qualifying, as he finished as co-medalist at West Lancashire with Sam Horsfield.
Luis Masaveu – Masaveu qualified through final qualifying in a nervy 3-for-1 playoff at Royal Cinque Ports. To make his qualifying even more impressive, Masaveu played the qualifier with an old set of clubs and no three-wood after
Jaime Montojo – Montojo qualified with Luis Masaveu through final qualifying at Royal Cinque Ports. He finished T29 at the European Amateur and made match-play at the British Amateur.
Tommy Morrison – The rising junior at Texas had a successful trip overseas, finishing in the top 16 at the British Amateur Championship and then becoming the first-ever American winner at the European Amateur Championship to earn a spot at Royal Troon. Morrison, who is 6-foot-9, will look to join Christo Lamprecht as a 6-foot-9 amateur to play well at the Open Championship. He survived a three-hole aggregate playoff to win.
Liam Nolan – Nolan was also one of the amateurs to make it through final qualifying, as he sank a five-foot par putt to avoid a playoff. Nolan was a member of the 2023 GB&I Walker Cup team.
Jacob Skov Olesen – The final exemption into the Open Championship, Olesen became the first Danish player to win the Amateur Championship, defeating Dominic Clemons in the final to punch his ticket to Royal Troon.
Gordon Sargent – Sargent, the No. 2 ranked player in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, is the veteran of major championships of the group, as he finished as a low amateur at the 2023 U.S. Open. He made the field by way of winning the Mark McCormack medal to earn an exemption into the field.
Calum Scott – Scott made his way into the field as a winner of the Open Amateur Series, which made its debut in 2023. He lost in the quarterfinal of the Amateur Championship to Skov Olesen, and the Texas Tech standout also represented the GB&I team in the 2023 Walker Cup.
Jasper Stubbs – Stubbs won the 2023 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Royal Melbourne, just a mile away from his home in Australia. He played in the 2024 Masters Tournament and the 2024 U.S. Open by way of the win as well.
Altin Van Der Merwe – One of the top mid-amateurs in the country, Van Der Merwe won the inaugural Africa Amateur in a playoff over fellow South Africans Christiaan Maas and Ivan Verster to earn a spot in the Open Championship. Van Der Merwe is ranked No. 1 in the AmateurGolf.com Mid-Amateur Rankings.
