Chugg defeated Julia Potter-Bobb and three-time defending champion Lauren Greenlief on the second playoff hole
Three of the top mid-amateur golfers in the women's game needed extra holes to decide a winner at the 2024 AGA Women's Amateur Championship at Bay Club at Mattapoisett in Mattapoisett, Mass.
Ultimately, Kelsey Chugg, the 2017 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion and 2018 and 2023 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur runner-up, emerged victorious on the second playoff hole.
Chugg finished 1-under through the 54 holes, tied with Lauren Greenlief and Julia Potter-Bobb. Greenlief won the 2020, 2022, and 2023 AGA Women's Amateur. Potter-Bobb won the 2013 and 2016 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championships.
Greenlief entered the final hole with a one-shot lead in her journey for four championships in five years over Chugg and a two-shot lead over Potter-Bobb, but a bogey from Greenlief, a birdie from Potter-Babb and a par from Chugg forced a three-way playoff
Chugg shot rounds of 72-71-69 to earn a spot in the playoff. Greenlief shot rounds of 71-73-68, and Potter-Babb shot rounds of 73-70-69. Chugg is currently ranked No. 516 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
In the Senior Division, Tara Joy-Connelly ran away with the victory, finishing 1-over with rounds of 69-70-75 to win by ten shots. Joy-Connelly shot the only two under-par rounds in the division. She shot 2-under 69 in the first round and 1-under 70 in the second round.
Ellen Port finished in solo second place at 11-over, Lara Tennant finished in solo third place at 12-over, and Kathy Hartwiger finished in solo fourth place at 13-over.
Martha Leach and Kristyl Sunderman finished T5 at 15-over to round out the top five.
