No team has had a better start to the spring golf season than the South Carolina Women's Golf team, as they are now 2-for-2 in tournament wins so far.
The Gamecocks won the San Diego State Classic at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., with a score of 16-over. They recorded team rounds of 290-294-296 to best Virginia by a narrow one-shot.
Virginia finished in solo second place at 17-over after rounds of 295-288-298. Virginia started the final round one shot ahead of South Carolina, but the Gamecocks saved some of their best golf for last to turn the one-shot deficit into a one-shot victory. This is their second win in the spring and third win this season.
South Carolina opened up the season with a win at the Therese Herrion Regional Team Challenge after winning its first three matches. The championship match against Texas was canceled due to inclement weather, and the Gamecocks beat the Longhorns in the tiebreaker.
