J.R. Williams Four-Ball: Clean sweep for Canadian teams at Oak Hill
Simon McInnis (left) and Garrett Rank
It may have been a 1-2-3 finish for American players at the recently-held Canadian Mid-Amateur Championship. The Canadians, however, showed their strength over the weekend at the challenging Oak Hill in Rochester, New York, winning both the Mid-Am and Senior titles.
Senior champs Dave Bunker and Adam Creighton Simon McInnis and Garrett Rank -- the NHL referee who will soon have to put the clubs away for the winter -- took home the Mid-Am title, shooting Rounds of 67, 65, and 65 for a three-day total of 13-under 197. Rank is from Elmira, Ontario, and his partner, McInnis resides in Crystal Beach, Ontario.
It was the third Williams title for the duo, who won in 2015 and 2018 and nearly won again in 2021 before ultimately finishing as the runners-up.
Adam Creighton from Wellesley, Ontario, and Dave Bunker (Ridgeway, Ontario) posted rounds of 70, 67, and 68 for a three-day total of 7-under 205 to capture the senior title.
It was the second Williams trophy for Bunker, who won the Mid-Am title back in 2011 with another Canadian, Rob Cowan.
As evidenced by the photo above, the weather conditions were much better for Oak Hill's traditional amateur championship than the pros had it in May, when Brooks Koepka won the PGA Championship on these same fairways.
