Virginie Ding wins Women's Orlando International Amateur
Virginie Ding
Vanderbilt junior Virginie Ding fired a final-round 71 on Friday to hold off Megan Schofill of Auburn by a stroke to capture the 2023 Orlando International Amateur at Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge.
Ding, who followed an opening round 66 with a 69 on Thursday, made a clinching birdie on the final hole to finish at 10-under 206 for the 54-hole event.
After carding rounds of 69 and 65, Schofill took a one-shot lead over Ding into the final round but two bogeys on her inward nine proved costly as she signed for a 73.
The victory was the third of Ding’s amateur career having won the 2018 Pondok Indah International Junior Championship and 2019 Hong Kong Ladies Amateur Championship.
