Ranked 19th among the all NCAA Division I men's players by Golfstat, UC Davis'
Thomas Hutchison might be the best collegiate golfer in the nation you've never heard of.
Hutchison, the only player from a non-Power 5 conference program ranked among the nation's top-20 individuals, closed out his regular season with a bang on Friday, winning the El Macero Classic at the El Macero (Calif.) Country Club.
The San Jose, Calif. native carded rounds of 69-68-71 for an 8-under total of 208, which was good for a one-stroke win over
Trevor McNary of Cal-State Fullerton, who closed with a final round 68. It was his second career victory following his win at the Windon Memorial Classic back in the fall of 2018.
At 7-under 857, Fresno State won the team title by one stroke over Long Beach State.
Hutchison will lead UC Davis into the Big West Conference Championships which get underway on May 1 at the La Quinta (Calif.) Country Club. Currently ranked 62nd by Golfstat, the Aggies need a good showing to keep their regional hopes alive.
