By
Mike Sorensen of the Deseret NewsAfter Kirk Siddens blistered Davis Park Golf Course with a course-record 11-under-par 60 on Monday, it looked like he was going to walk away with the Utah Mid-Amateur Championship for non-college golfers over age 25.
The 57-year-old Siddens was six shots ahead of his nearest competitor going into the final round and 10 shots ahead of David Jennings.
Jennings ended up winning, however, as he matched Siddens’ round from the previous day with his own round of 60, and his three-round total of 196 beat Siddens and Kurt Owen by two shots. The 35-year-old from Layton didn’t make a bogey all day as he shot a 29 on the front side with five birdies and an eagle at No. 3 and then added four birdies on the back side for a 31 and his 60.
Siddens had gone 32-28 with his 60 the day before, making 10 birdies, an eagle and a bogey. But he struggled on the par-3s where he made four of his five bogeys Tuesday on his way to a 72.
Owen shot a 66 to tie Siddens for second, while Thomas Young and Dan Horner each finished at 199, while Derek Penman was alone at 200 and Denny Job came in at 201.
Siddens, Young and Horner were the top three in the Masters Division (over 40) followed by Jon Wright at 203 and Matt Lyons at 207.
