On March 1, Titleist will release limited black-finish versions of the popular 718 AP2 and 718 AP3 irons

In August 2017, Titleist released their 718 AP2 and 718 AP3 irons, to rave reviews from tour pros and amateurs alike.

The next variation arrives March 1, when Titleist makes available the new limited all-black editions. The practical benefit of the black-finished irons will be glare reduction, but who needs to be practical? Most players will like them for the looks alone.

“One request we heard from both tour players and amateurs, particularly those who have gravitated toward our Jet Black Vokey SM7 wedges, was if they could have these same irons in a darker finish,” said Josh Talge of Titleist. “Our team spent a lot of time making sure the aesthetics were done just right. It’s a look that you just have to see.”

To go with the darker heads, the new 718s will come with Tru Temper AMT Onyx shafts and all-black Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grips.

The 718 AP2 gives the tour player and better amateur player the blade length and shape that they tend to prefer, but precise perimeter tungsten weighting and a unique co-forged construction provide the forgiveness found in game-improvement irons.

The 718 AP3 is a player's distance iron. High-MOI design – with an average of 84.9 grams of tungsten per head, placed low and in the toe of the long and mid irons – produces higher ball speeds across the face, providing the off-center distance performance of a game improvement iron.

The 718 AP2 Black and 718 AP3 Black will retail at $187.50/club or $1,499 for a set of eight (4-GW).

Finish: High Polish Black

Shaft: DG Onyx AMT Tour White
Grip: Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 Black
