Shaktman takes over Dixie Senior lead with 2-under 70
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Dec. 12, 2018) – Joe Shaktman moved into the lead Wednesday at the Dixie Senior Amateur with a 2-under 70 at Eagle Trace Golf Club that included three birdies in his final five holes. With that round, which tied for the low round of the day, Shaktman got to 2 over for the tournament and will take a one-shot lead into the final round.
Shaktman, a Coral Springs local, finished T-2 at the North & South Senior Amateur earlier this year. A Dixie Senior title would be a nice way to cap the year.
Michael Hughett, meanwhile, stands in second place after rounds of 74-73 to open the event. He shared the lead with Doug Hanzel after one round, but fell slightly off the pace on Wednesday.
Hanzel, the 2017 AmateurGolf.com Senior Player of the Year, fell only slightly farther off the pace. Back-to-back rounds of 74 left him in a three-way tie for third with Ken Kinkopf and T.J. Brudzinski. All three players are 4 over, two shots off the pace.
Hanzel is also the defending champion in this event.
In the super senior division, Edward Turner had a 1-under 71 on Wednesday and at 1 over, has a seven-shot lead on Marc Fried in second place.
