CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Dec. 11, 2018) – After one round at the Dixie Senior Amateur,
Doug Hanzel and
Michael Hughett are tied atop the leaderboard at 2 over. Each player got around Eagle Trace Golf Club in 74 and avoided big numbers.
Hanzel, of Savannah, Ga., enters the event roughly a month removed from capturing the SOS Championship by 11 shots. The 2017 AGC Senior Player of the Year also won the Gasparilla Senior and Golfweek Senior POY Classic. He is the defending champion this week.
For his part, Hughett, of Owasso, Okla., was runner-up in the Senior Porter Cup but played fewer national senior events than Hanzel did coming in.
Three players are tied for third at 4-over 76 including Christopher Chee, Joe Shaktman and Ken Kinkopf, who finished 10th at last week’s Ralph Bogart Tournament after holding the co-lead at the 36-hole mark.
In the super senior division, Edward Turner also leads with 2-over 74. He is two shots ahead of Jirka Danek and Marc Friend, who both had 76.
