OK State leads the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate after a 36-hole day cut short by darkness. Cowboy sophomore Matthew Wolff leads, too

CARROLLTON, Texas (Oct. 22, 2018) – There wasn’t enough light Monday to finish a 36-hole day at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, but there were more than enough holes for Oklahoma State to establish a nearly insurmountable lead.

The Cowboys, still on top after the latest coaches poll and searching for a second win this season, posted a 7-under 275 at the par-70 Maridoe Golf Club in the morning round. In the afternoon, they were 5 under when play was called for darkness. The Cowboys were through 14 holes.

At 12 under, Oklahoma State is 16 shots ahead of Arkansas, the next-best team. N.C. State is in third place at 6 over.

Matthew Wolff is setting the pace fo Oklahoma State, as he has been known to do this season. The sophomore posted a 4-under 68 in the opening round, and was 2 under on this second round when play was called. He leads N.C. State’s Stephen Franken by a shot. Wolff has won the individual in both of the team’s starts this fall.

Oklahoma State’s Viktor Hovland (3 under) and Hayden Wood (2 under) are also in the top 5.

The Cowboys have won the event on three occasions, capturing the team title in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The team will be looking to rebound after finishing four at last week’s Big 12 Match Play, also played in Texas.
