WGC Bridgestone Invitational Contest Winners Announced
CARLSBAD, Calif. (August 1, 2007) -- amateurgolf.com today announced the winners
of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational contest, sponsored by Bridgestone Golf
and supported by UST Golf Shaft and Lamkin Grip. The contest was inspired by
the combination of Bridgestone Golf being amateurgolf.com's top sponsor, along
with the playing of the World Golf Championship event that Bridgestone Corporation
is now the title sponsor of.
The defending champion is Tiger Woods, who was
a heck of an amateur once upon a time.
But let's put professional golf aside for a moment. Who was the
big winner? That would be none other than Al Richardson of Santa Clara, an
IT Operations Manager for Applied Materials Corporation Monday-Friday and an
amateurgolf.com tournament player on the weekends.
A look at Richardson's profile (see link at top of page) would make you think
that the contest was fixed -- he has played in 34 of our tournaments since 2004
and joined us at our premier event, The Two Man Links Championship at Bandon
Dunes, twice. But our panels of independent auditors assured me that the selection
was totally at random, based on players who logged into the site in July and
said "yes" to being in the contest, before updating some portion of their profile
as provided for in the contest rules.
Richardson wins a set (3-PW) of Bridgestone GC-Mid irons shafted with UST
Proforce 95 graphite shafts and gripped with Lamkin Crossline grips, plus a Bridgestone
GC Hybrid Utility club and dozen B330-S balls and Bridgestone bag.
"I've never won anything in my life, except for the one time I won $275 in a
Super Bowl pool," said Richardson.
His clubs and accessories will be delivered when he makes his 35th amateurgolf.com
appearance at the Bay Regional Championship in Berkeley on August 3-5.
This year, the 11-handicap Richardson took third in the amateurgolf.com Capitol
City Amateur. In 2005, he and partner Jim Thurman won the amateurgolf.com Monterey
Peninsula Four Ball, where he scored his second career ace in the final round.
"The ace was the difference in us winning a card-off, so it was even sweeter,"
said Richardson.
A complete list of contest prizes follows with the final winners listed
below.
Congratulations to all winners, and thanks to everyone who took part and especially
to Bridgestone Golf, UST Golf Shaft, and Lamkin Grips for providing the great
prizes. As the Presenting Sponsor of the amateurgolf.com Tournament Series and
Foundation Sponsor of the amateurgolf.com website, Bridgestone Golf has really
stepped up in 2007 and whether you won something or not we hope you will give
their products a try.
