Corby Segal wins his second Kelly Cup
Corby Segal won for the 2nd time at Lakeside
BURBANK, CA (April 29, 2018) -
Corby Segal (Santa Clarita, CA) shot a final-round even-par 70 to win the 2018 Kelly Cup at Lakeside Golf Club.
It was the second Kelly Cup title for Segal, who cruised to a six-shot win in 2013.
The contest was tighter this time around, as Segal opened with a 74 and found himself three shots behind leaders Keith Kinsel (Glendale, CA) and Greg Sato (S. Pasadena, CA).
Segal grabbed a share of the lead with Kinsel after a second-round 68, which was the only under-par round of the tournament as Lakeside did its usual job defending par with some of the smallest greens found anywhere in tournament play.
As Kinsel fell away with a final-round 77, Segal's closest challengers were Nico Bollini (Laguna Beach, CA) and nine-time champion Tim Hogarth (Northridge, CA), who both closed with 1-over 71s. Bollini finished runner-up, three shots behind Segal's winning total of 2-over 212. Hogarth was a further shot behind in third.
Kinsel fell to a tie for fourth with Ryan Dwight (Costa Mesa) at 9-over 219. Michael Turner (Sherman Oaks, CA) was the low senior, finishing in solo sixth at 223.
The defending champion Tyler Crawford (Indio, CA) did not make the cut to the final round.
