VARIOUS SITES ACROSS THE USA - Sectional qualifying for the 4th U.S. Four-Ball Championship, contested over 18 holes at 51 sites across the United States, began Aug. 28 and concluded Apr. 9.
2,279 entries were accepted for the championship. 10 teams (or sides), including 2017 champions Frankie Capan and Shuai Ming Wong, are exempt into the championship, with the remainder of the 128-team field coming from sectional qualifying.

Alfieri has had top five finishes in the New Year's Invitational and Cardinal Amateur in recent years; Barbosa has recorded top fives in the George C. Thomas Invitational and the New Year's Invitational.

Johns Island, SC:

Chardon, OH: Matthew Considine and Putter Johnson got hot at Sand Ridge Golf Club, shooting a bogey-free 10 under round that included two streaks of three birdies in a row and one of four birdies in a row. Andrew Bailey and Kevin Carlin fought through a five-team playoff for the final spot.

Nampa, ID: Oregon State commit Carson Barry and Oklahoma commit Sam Tidd won by three shots at RedHawk GC with a 7-under 63, but were helped when the team of Jacob Byers and Tristan Rohrbaugh went bogey-triple after getting to 8-under with four holes to play.

Kapalua, HI: Isaac Jaffurs will be making two trips to the mainland for USGA championships; he qualified for the U.S. Mid-Amateur last month and now has qualified for the U.S. Four-Ball with partner Kyeton Littel.

Williamsburg, VA: 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Scott Harvey and partner Todd Mitchell have now qualified for all four U.S. Four-Ball Championships, shooting a 63 at Golden Horseshoe GC to earn medalist honors. Harvey and Mitchell made the quarterfinals of last year's championship. Former Virginia Amateur champion Scott Shingler and current Virginia Mid-Amateur champion Justin Young also qualified.

Sewickley, PA: Sean Knapp continued his run of success at Sewickley Heights GC by shooting the low round of all of the qualifiers held so far, a 10-under 61 with partner Rick Stimmel. In the last four weeks, Knapp has won the U.S. Senior Amateur and the Sunnehanna Senior, was a member of the winning WPGA Palmer Cup team, and has now qualified for his 42nd USGA event.

Mitchellville, MD: Randy Sroka made putts of 10 and 20 feet to give him and partner Ryan Chamberlain the last spot in a 3-for-2 playoff.

Laconia, IN: Three teams shot 6-under 66 at Chariot Run Golf Club, and then played off for the two available qualifying spots. Two teams of mid-amateurs survived the playoff,
including former U.S. Mid-Amateur runner-up Kenny Cook and two-time Indiana Mid-Amateur champ Sean Rowen.
Cook and Rowen won the Indiana Mid-Am Team this summer, shooting a final-round 59.

Springfield, PA: Both medalist teams traveled quite a distance to qualify at Rolling Green GC. John Lazor and Patrick Frodigh are childhood friends who flew in from Elon University in NC and Dartmouth College in NH. Jack Kozlowski and Trey Rath are high schoolers who drove eight hours from Ohio. Both teams had academic commitments that prevented them from attempting qualifying closer to home earlier in the qualifying window.

Paoli, PA: The two teams at 66 advanced through a 3-for-2 playoff, with Semenetz and Wallace taking the last spot on the 5th playoff hole after darkness halted the playoff the night before.

Sacramento, CA: Bobby Bucey and Brett Viboch, winners of last year's NCGA Four-Ball, earned medalist honors at Del Paso CC with a 9-under 62. Bucey capped the round with a hole-out eagle at the 18th. Jesse Galvon and Domingo Jojola won a playoff to take the other spot in the championship.

Pebble Beach, CA: Daniel Licursi and Danny Wax birdied the final four holes to win the qualifier at Poppy Hills GC. John Sawin, winner of the 2015 Walter Travis Invitational and the 2013 Stocker Cup, qualified with his partner Tug Maude by shooting 30 on the back nine.
