Busby-Talley lead Champions Cup Invitational Alone

HOUSTON, TX (April 28, 2017) - Derek Busby and John Talley, from St. Martinsville and Ruston, LA, carded a second round 5-under-par 66 which featured 13 pars and five birdies and they are are now 10-under. When play resumes on Saturday with the third round they will carry a one shot lead into play at the 50th Champions Cup Invitational hosted by Cypress Creek Course at Champions Golf Club. The lead duos second round score was made even more impressive when you consider that the had to battle swirling winds that gusted up 20-30 MPH.

The Houston team of Bryant Lach and Matt Cordell matched the leaders second round scorecard, also shooting a very nifty second round score of 5-under-par 66 and they are in second place at 9-under. Lach and Cordell, members at the host club, rolled in five birdies while also making it around their home course without a dropped shot.

New Yorkers Darin Goldstein and Trevor Randolph are 8-under in third following a bogey-free 4-under 67 that included four birdies.

In fourth place it is the team of Kevin Herman (Powell, Tennessee) and Craig Junio (Las Vegas, NV.). They as well carded a bogey-free 4-under 67 and at 7-under they are in fourth place jus three back.

The third round will begin on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the final round to follow on Sunday.

ABOUT THE Champions Cup Invitational

Champions is Jack Burke's club, and the Champions Cup is his invitational tournament. This is a special place, full of history and worthy of the championships it has hosted, which include the Ryder Cup, U.S. Open, U.S Amateur, U.S. Mid- Amateur and multiple Tour Championships. The Champions Cup is a 72-hole four-ball event with no cut. It is a very popular tournament that attracts a very strong, competitive national field. To be considered for entry, players must maintain a maximum USGA handicap of 3, be at least 25 years old and submit playing accomplishments to be considered. Walking is required but long pants are no longer mandatory. Contestants are urged to stay at the homes of Champions members (at no cost), but can arrange their own accommodations if desiring to do so. The tournament formerly required both contestants to be from the same state but has since waived that requirement.
