FORT WORTH, TX (April 11, 2017) - Barry Brown
leads the Texas North Senior Amateur after an
opening round, two-under-par, 70 at Ridglea
Country Club (Championship Course). His seven
birdie performance vaulted him to the top of the
leaderboard by one over a group of three
players.
Bryan Winnett leads all Super Seniors with a
one-
over-par, 73.
Barry Brown of McKinney didn’t start off to
the
fastest start with bogies on his first two holes
(hole
#10 and #11). However, he made up for it
quickly
with three straight birdies. Brown added one
more
on the outward nine on the par four, seventeenth
to
turn at two-under-par. His back nine, course’s
front,
saw more red numbers for Brown with birdies on
the
third and fourth hole.
Unfortunately, he gave both back in the next
two holes. Trading bogey for birdie on the eighth
and ninth, saw him close the round at two-under
and atop the leaderboard.
Three players sit just one shot back after the
first round. Two of those players have once
before
held the title of North Senior Amateur Champion.
2012 Champion, John Grace of Fort Worth,
recorded
three birdies for his one-under-par round. 2014
Champion Chuck Palmer of Dallas salvaged the
round with back to back birdies on his back nine
to
reach the subpar total. The third member of
those
who trail Brown by one is Lelan Chiles of
Granbury,
who closed in style with four birdies in his last
seven
holes.
2016 North Senior Amateur Dave Davis sits
two
back after carding an even par round of 72.
Overall, eleven players are sitting just three
shots off the pace set by Brown.
In the Super Senior Divison, Fort Worth’s
own
Bryan Winnett takes hold of the lead with an
even
par, 72 after the first round. Winnett was two-
over-
par in his first five holes but closed with three
straight birdies on holes seven through nine.
Bogies
again plagued his opening few holes of his
second
nine but like before closed strong with birdies on
the
sixteenth and seventeenth. A par on the last
gave
him the lead by one.
James Long, Granbury, trails Winnett by one
and used a three birdie performance to get him
there. His one-over-par, 73 will put him in the
final
group on starting the back side with Winnett.
Ridglea Country Club (Championship
Course)
played to 6,623 yards for the Senior Division and
6,037 for the Super Senior Division.
Starting Times will once again begin off the
1st
and 10th tee at 8:00am. Barry Brown will be
looking
to close the door on the field at 9:57 AM off the
1st.
