SAINT GEORGE, UT (March 19, 2017) -- The Utah Golf Association’s annual Winterchamps tournament in Southern Utah was welcomed by perfect weather to kick off the 2017 championship season. Over the weekend Sky Mountain Golf Course, SunRiver Golf Club and The Ledges Golf Club hosted 250 of Utah golf’s most competitive. During the first round, Zac Jones finished at the top of the Men First Division leaderboard with 49 Modified Stableford points. Nevertheless, 2016 UGA Men’s Player of the Year Rhett Rasmussen came from behind to clinch his second consecutive Winterchamps Men’s First Division title with 91 Modified Stableford points. Rasmussen carded a second round gross score of 34 on the front and 33 on the back with zero bogeys to earn his win. In fact, his final-round scorecard contains only threes and fours; he birdied every par-5. 2016 Utah Women’s Stroke Play Champion Naomi Soifua lead the Women First Division by one point over Kelsey Chugg, 2016 Winterchamps Women’s First Division champion. During her first round of the two-day event at Sky Mountain Golf Course, Soifua carded a one-over 37 on the front nine with birdies on 5, 6 and 9. She remained consistent throughout the back to shoot even-par and clinch the lead heading into the final round at The Ledges Golf Club. With an even-par 70 at The Ledges, Soifua was crowed champion with 82 Stableford points. In the Senior First Division, Rick Lloyd inched past Kirk Siddens by one Stableford point at The Ledges Golf Club to take the first round lead with 43 points. However, Siddens fired a 73 at SunRiver in the final round to earn 39 points and overtake Lloyd by two points. Heber Jacobsen led the Super Senior division by two Stableford points over David Fischer after carding an even-par 72 during his first round at Sky Mountain Golf Club. He then carded a 76 at The Ledges during his final round to bring his two-day point total to 75 and win the title by five points over Fischer.
