DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (February 4, 2017) -- When second round action resumed Saturday morning Curtis Luck and Rayhan Thomas continued their strong play and they both made the Omega Dubai Desert Classic 36-hole cut.
Following a first round even-par 72 at Emirates Golf Club Luck shot a second round round 4-under 68 before turning around and putting together yet another 4-under 68 in the afternoon third round. Luck, 8-under, has eliminated the big mistake so far this week recording 13 birdies and five bogeys. His best stretch of golf came late in his second round when be birdied Nos. 16-18 in succession to close out his round.
Luck has also shown the aptitude for finishing strong, playing the final three holes in 5-under for the week.
With third round play suspended due to darkness the 2016 U.S. Amateur and Asia-Pacific Amateur winner finds himself tied for 11th with among others Graeme McDowell.
17-year-old Rayhan Thomas is also around for the weekend and he is currently 1-over and sharing 54th place. This is the first time that Thomas has made the cut at a European Tour event.
Thomas turned some heads on Thursday with his first round 4-under 68 that left him only three shots off the pace.
Thomas has since posted scores of 75-74. In the third round Thomas could have lost complete control of his round but he was able to salvage it in a big way. After opening in 6-over 41, Thomas recovered nicely on the back nine with a five birdie and one bogey side to close in 4-under 33.
