Stephen Sharpe starts 2017 with Old Corkscrew Senior title
ESTERO, FL (January 6, 2017) -- One year after tying for second place at the Old Corkscrew Senior Stephan Sharpe has broken through and won the title. Championship hopes looked dim after a first round 80 at Old Corkscrew Golf Club but Sharpe rebounded with rounds of 72-73 to finish with a 54-hole total of 225 and four-strokes ahead of Owen Joyner.
Sharpe, from Greensboro, NC, is looking to build on a 2016 season that saw him earn points in seven AmateurGolf.com Ranking events. Along with his runner-up finish at the Old Corkscrew, Sharpe also earned a tie for fifth at The Hesler.
Joyner (Bonita Springs, FL) finished second after rounds of 78-74-77--229, third place was shared by Keith Decker (Martinsville, VA) 81-75-74--230; Sam Till (Fort Wayne, IN) 75-79-76--230 while Harold Payne (Hurricane, WV) placed fifth with a 80-77-74--231 tally.
The Super-Senior Division was won by Richard Pfeil (Naples, FL) with scores of 75-72-77--224 and in second place it was Peter Allen (Southport, NC). Allen put together rounds of 72-80-75--227.
Of the three divisions the closest race was in the Legends where Joe Pavoni (Prospect, KY) earned a one-stroke triumph over John Blank (Frostburg,MD). Pavoni posted 75-79-75--229 while for Blank his scores were 77-74-79--230.

The event is a 54 hole individual stroke play
tournament for amateurs fifty-five years and
over. The tournament includes a
Senior Division (age 55- 64); Super-Senior
Division (65 and over);
and a Legends Division (70 and over), the
Legends
Division plays from the same yardage and
tees as the Super-Senior Division.
Participants
must reach the minimum age requirement in
each division bracket by the first tournament
round.
