LAS VEGAS, NV (October 29, 2016) -- Justin Kim posted a 2-under 68 on Sunday at the Last Vegas Amateur and he was able to rally and win by a stroke over Jack William Trent. Kim finished 8-under after two days at Las Vegas Golf Club.

At the beginning of the day Kim was two back but when first round leader Cameron Gambini stumbled he was able to take full advantage of the opportunity. With the entire field beginning on the 10th hole, Kim birdied the 10th, 15th and 16th holes to reach 9-under for the tournament. Following two birdies on the 1st and 2nd holes, Kim reached 11-under before having to hold on down the stretch as he bogeyed three of his final six holes, including the last two.

Trent finished second place at 7-under, Kenny Ebalo was third at 6-under while Justin Chong and Grant Butler shared fourth at 5-under.

1-under through nine holes Trent couldn't force a playoff as he finished with nine straight pars.

Opening day leader Cameron Gambini faltered late on his first side and could never recover and he ended up finishing 4-under in a tie for sixth.

ROUND ONE RECAP

The round didn't get off to the best of starts for Las Vegas Amateur first round leader Cameron Gambini but boy did he turn his day around. Gambini started his round at Las Vegas Golf Club on the 10th hole and bogeyed the 13th to fall to 1-over. That bogey would prove to be his only of the day and he would more than get that stroke back over the course of the next seven holes.

Gambini started his remarkable stretch with the first of six straight birdies on the 14th and then he capped the run with an eagle on the par-5 2nd hole. During the seven hole stretch Gambini was an unconscious 8-under.

Once Gambini reached 7-under he cruised home with seven straight pars and signed for a first round 63 that put him in the lead by one over three others.

The 6-under second place group is comprised of Justin Kim, Jack William Trent and Grant Butler.

Kim bogeyed the first hole of his round, the 10th, before playing flawless golf the rest of the way with five birdies and an eagle three on No. 2.

For Trent most of his damage was done coming home, the courses frontside. Trent was 1-under through nine and then rolled in five birdies during the second nine.

Butler was the only player among the top-four players to play bogey-free golf as he carded one birdie on his first side, the outward nine, and then five more on Nos. 1-9.

Justin Chong is in fifth place at 5-under and only three behind. Chong is one of seven players within four of the lead.

A total of 21 players were under-par during round one.
