COLUMBUS, OH (August 12, 2016) -- Chip Lutz is the lone amateur to make the U.S. Senior Open cut. Lutz shot a 1-under 69 to move to 6-over and finish inside the 7-over cutline at Scioto Country Club.

Lutz, from Reading, PA was the only amateur to fire a under-par round during the first two days of play. The recent British Senior Amateur champion dropped to 8-under with a bogey on the second hole before getting on a role with birdies on Nos. 3, 6 and 7 to move to 5- under and inside the cutline.

Now battling to make the cut, Lutz bogeyed the 8th and after a par on the 9th turned in 1-under 34. Needing to play the back nine in no worse then 1-over, Lutz created some breathing room with a birdie on the par-5 12th that moved him back to 5-over.

On the way in Lutz did drop a stroke on the 16th before parring out to ensure his spot in the weekend at the 37th U.S. Senior Open.

Lutz will begin his third round at 8:58 a.m. EST playing alongside Bart Bryant and Mark Calcavecchia.
