STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (May 28, 2016) -- Matt Lowe of Farmindale, N.Y. opened with 68 Friday to take the lead at the New York City Amateur.

Two years ago Lowe shot a course-record 63 in this event yet was unable to grab the title, finishing tied for 4th. He looks to close the deal this time around and is off to a great start in a round that included many birdies and an eagle. Lowe holds a one shot lead over Ryan Snouffer and two shots over Trevor Randolph.

After Saturday's round the field of 147 players was cut down to the low forty 40 players and ties at 77 or better. 36 more holes will be played to decide a champion.
