W. Penn. Fred Brand Foursomes: Malcom Spatz and Jonathan Thomas Capture Title
VERONA, PA (May 9, 2016) - After 36-holes of golf on Monday Malcom Spatz and Jonathan Thomas captured the Western Pennsylvania Fred Brand Foursomes title with a score of 2-over. The winning duo combined scores of 70-72 at Longue Vue Club on their way to a one-stroke victory.
After an opening round even-par 70 Spatz and Thomas were struggling in the second round and through 11 holes they were 3-over. Then came the moment of the afternoon as they converted an unexpected eagle two on the short par-4 13th. They did bogey the ensuing hole but were able to rebound with a birdie on 15 to create the separation they needed.
Grant Engel and Steve Thomas finished one-stroke behind at 3-over in second. The teams of Sean Knapp and Nathan Smith; Darin Kowalski and Arnold Cutrell were third following a 5-over tally. Tom and Chuck Nettles rounded out the top-five finishing fifth with a 6-over score.
