Steve Hudson held on and won the Senior Masters at Indian Wells Golf Resort by a stroke over Jeff Burda

INDIAN WELLS, CA (April 21, 2016) – Steve Hudson, one of the top Senior players in the nation held onto his 36-hole lead and won the Senior Masters at Indian Wells Golf Resort. At the beginning of the day Hudson led by three-stokes before surviving and winning by one over Jeff Burda. Hudson of Birmingham, AL shot rounds of 69-70-71 for a 54-hole total of 210. Thursday's win marked the first ranking event win of the year for Hudson after recording two top-10 finishes in his previous three 2016 starts. Jeff Burda was nearly able to overcome a four-stroke deficit at the start of the final round. The Modesto, CA resident showed his mettle firing a final round 68 before coming up just short of reaching a playoff. Burda posted scores of 69-74 in the first two rounds and tallied a 211 as his three day total. Edward Vomastek (Traverse City, MI) and Jerry Hudgins (Tyler, TX) finished tied for third while three others were tied for fifth. In the Super Senior Division Ron Vannelli (Edison, NJ) put together rounds of 71-69-75--215 and won by four. In the Grand Masters Fred Rowland (La Quinta, CA) also won by four-strokes. Rowland won thanks to scores of 73-71-74 for a total of 218. 36-HOLE RECAP Steve Hudson will carry a three-stroke lead into today's final round at the Senior Masters at Indian Wells Golf Resort. Hudson, the 15th ranked Senior player in the country will be in search of his first win of the year. Thus far in three ranking events Hudson has finished in the top-10 twice. Hudson (Birmingham, AL) has put together rounds of 69-70 for a 36-hole score of 139. He leads Adam Kugler (La Quinta, CA) and Edward Vomastek (Traverse City, MI) by three at the start of the final round. In the Super Senior Division Ron Vannelli (Edison, NJ) has opened a comfortable five-stroke lead. Vannelli has shot 71-69--140 in the first two rounds. Gary Kirwan (McKinney, TX) is in second and five off the pace while three others are tied for third. Fred Rowland (La Quinta, CA) holds a seven shot advantage heading into the final round of the Grand Masters Division. Rowland with scores of 73-71--144 is well out in front of Gus Kozina (Beach Park, IL) and Robert Schmid (Lake Forest, IL). Today's final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. PST.
