Dal Poggetto Leads Wine Country Cup; Two Tied in Net
NOVATO, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2016) -- The 2016 amateurgolf.com Wine Country Cup is underway at Bay Club Stonetree. The 6700 yard course played its full yardage and then some as damp fairways and cold winds made for a difficult afternoon for the players.
Daniel Dal Poggetto from Petaluma, Calif. handled the conditions well, opening with a solid 74. Poggetto credited his ball-striking as key to his success and could have been under par had it not been for a few three-putts.
Poggetto holds a four-shot lead over Sonoma State's Brandon Lee and Kirabo Reed. Kevin Kobalter was the only other player to break 80 after opening with a 79.
SENIOR/NET DIVISION RECAP
Sherman Haggerty leads the senior division after putting up a respectable 81 that included three birdies. He'll take a two-shot lead into the final round over Skip Foppert.
Chris Hyland opted to switch from the Championship division to the Net division in order to defend his title. The strategy paid off well for him, netting a 2-under par 70. Hyland shares the lead with Rune Jensen and Tom Dillon is lurking one-shot behind.
