French golfer Romain Langasque never trailed on Saturday at Carnoustie, defeating Scotland's Grant Forrest for the British Amateur title

CARNOUSTIE, Scotland. — Romain Langasque never trailed on Saturday at Carnoustie. Facing Scotland's Grant Forrest in the 120th British Amateur's 36-hole championship finale, Langasque was as much as five-up in the first 18, doing so by the 11th hole. By the 23rd hole, the 20-year-old Frenchman was seven-up. Despite Forrest's comeback attempt, in which he brought the match to three-down with three to go, Langasque closed him out 4-and-2 to bring home the first British Amateur title for France since Julien Guerrier in 2006. His win also made him the ninth different country to claim victory at the championship in the last nine years. "This is just a dream for me," Langasque told the R&A.. "It is just incredible that I am going to play at St. Andrews in one month’s time for The Open." Langasque is set for three exciting exemptions by virtue of his win. As he proudly mentioned, he'll head to St. Andrews in July for the British Open, but he'll also receive invitations to the 2016 Masters and 2016 U.S. Open, should he keep his amateur status in tact. In Friday's quarterfinal and semifinal matches, Forrest went 20 holes with countryman Greig Marchbank before sending Frenchman Alexandre Daydou home with a 4-and-2 defeat in the afternoon. Forrest turned 22 on Friday. Langasque had to face his own countryman in the quarterfinals, as well, as he won with a par against University of Louisville senior Robin Sciot-Siegrist on the 18th hole to finish off a 2-up victory. In the afternoon, Langasque punched his ticket to the final with an extra-hole triumph over Jack McDonald of Scotland.
