Vanderbilt runs away with Mason Rudolph Championship
Hunter Stewart
FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Following three straight second-place finishes this spring, Vanderbilt finally captured a victory, doing so at their home tournament, the Mason Rudolph Championship, on Easter weekend.
The Commodores were led by senior Hunter Stewart and sophomore Matthias Schwab, who were co-champions at the event shooting six-under 207.
Stewart, from Lexington, Ky., posted 70 on day one to trail leaders Schwab and another teammate Theo Humphrey by one. But a second-round 68 followed by 69 on Sunday kept Stewart on top. Schwab was two back of Stewart entering Sunday and shot 67, which was tied for lowest round of the day, to finish as co-champion with his senior teammate.
Despite three top-10 finishers, Alabama finished in a tie for second place with Georgia Tech 11 shots behind Vandy. Tom Lovelady (T4), Dru Love (T6), and Robby Shelton (T8) led the Crimson Tide while Ollie Schniederjans and recent Byron Nelson Award winner Anders Albertson were low for the Yellow Jackets.
