The University of Texas picks up its second straight win, winning by 10 amongst an elite field at Southern Highlands

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — If you're the Texas men's golf team, you're feeling pretty good about yourselves. In an elite field featuring 15 top-50 teams in the nation, including five teams inside the top-10, the Longhorns broke away from the pack in the third round to roll to a 10-shot win at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters.

Led by sophomore Beau Hossler, Texas shot 10- under on day three after trailing Big-12 rival Oklahoma State by two after Tuesday's second round. Hossler, who is coming off his first collegiate win at the John Hayt Collegiate, shot 68 in the final two rounds to tie for second place with John Rahm of Arizona State.

Texas also had top-10 individual finishes from Kramer Hickok and Scottie Scheffler, with Hickok taking fourth and Scheffler tying for seventh.

Second-round leaders Oklahoma State struggled on Wednesday, shooting nine- over as a team. The rough closing round dropped them back into a tie for third with ASU, whose streak of consecutive wins ended at three straight.

Individually, Alabama sophomore Robby Shelton broke away from the pack in the final round with a tournament low round of 65, which was also shot by three other players. At fifteen-under 201, Shelton bested Rahm and Hossler by six.

Another Big 12 team, Oklahoma, took solo second place at 16-under 848. The Sooners were led by freshman Grant Hirschman and senior Charlie Saxon. Saxon shared the opening-round lead with UNLV's Redford Bobbitt at 65.

The No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Illinois, settled for a sixth place finish, 20 shots behind Texas. Junior Charlie Danielson took sixth place to represent the Fighting Illini in the top-10 thanks to a final- round 68 after back-to-back 71s to open the event.
