University of Southern California freshman carded a tournament-low 67 on Sunday to win by two shots
Sean Crocker, a freshman from Westlake Village, rebounded from a first- round 75 to post a tournament-low 67 on Sunday to win the 36-hole event by two shots. His teammate and fellow freshman Jonah Texeira, from Porter Ranch, took solo second place at 144 (73-71).
Coming off a disappointing 75 on Saturday, Crocker cleaned up his game for the final round and was happy with the result.
"I drove the ball a lot better, hit more greens, and my putter got hot," Crocker said.
At one point, Crocker had six one-putts in a row, which included a string of birdies from holes 15 to 17. He followed that with a par on the difficult par- four 18th before bogeying his last hole of the day.
Cal State San Marcos sophomore Kevin Cline and 17-year old Redwood City high-schooler Shrish Dwivedi tied for third place at 146, with Dwivedi turning in a 71 on day two to jump into the top- three.
Rounding out the top-five were Perry Cohen, who plays for St. Marys, and Stuart MacDonald, a junior at Purdue from Vancouver, Canada at three-over 147.
Senior Division
Jeff Britton and Rick Doebler finished in a tie for first in the senior division, deciding to share champion honors. Doebler, of Fullerton, had 71 on Saturday following by an 82 while Britton, of Carmel, was consistent with 77-76.
Women's Division
Haley Andres, a senior at Louisville, won the women's division shooting 76-80. The Pacific Grove native beat Camarillo's Ava Lourenco by three shots to claim the title. Lourenco posted 80-79.
Net Division
After a first-round net 68, Richard McDaniel struggled to a net 80 on Sunday but still managed to hang on and take home the Net title by four shots over Greg Austin of San Marcos.
"The first round was a blast," the San Diego native said. "I made two eights and didn't think I had much of a chance but then I sunk a 30-foot putt for par and after that a birdie and an eagle got me going."
The next AmateurGolf.com event will take place next weekend, January 10- 11 at Coyote Creek Golf Club in the Silicon Valley Amateur.
