Eddie Kenny, Scott Wilson advance to Palm Beach Mid-Amateur Match Play final
JUPITER, Fla. (Sept. 28, 2014) — Eddie Kenny of Lake Worth and Scott Wilson of Palm Beach Gardens have advanced to the finals of the 29th annual Tire Kingdom Palm Beach Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship.
Each won two matches Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club, Jupiter. They will meet for the title on a date to be announced.
Kenny, winner of the Palm Beach Kennel Club County Amateur defeated Jared Meyers of North Palm Beach 1-up and R.J. Nakashian of Palm Beach Gardens, 3 and 2.
Wilson won two tight matches, 1-up over Darryl Osler of West Palm Beach and on the 23rd hole against Robert Floyd of Palm Beach Gardens. Wilson birdied the par-4 fifth hole for the latter victory. Wilson won his second round match Saturday afternoon on the first extra hole.
Rain Friday wrecked havoc with the schedule, delaying play in the 32-man, five-round championship bracket, which usually starts that afternoon following the morning qualifying round. Other flights were completed Sunday.
Matt Lindahl defeated Craig Leonard 4 & 3 to win the 1st Flight. Gene Johnson defeated Colin Holloway 4 & 3 to win the Second Flight and Dann Merrell aced the 173-yard 14th hole with a 5-iron but lost to older brother David Merrell, 4 and 3 in the 3rd Flight.
