Proceeds from the PGA Champions Tour event to Benefit Pacific Links Hawai‘i Foundation
HONOLULU (August 31, 2014) – Pacific Links Hawai‘i
will host some of the world’s top golfers at the third
annual Pacific Links Hawai‘i Championship from
September 17 to 21, 2014. The official PGA
Champions Tour event will be held at the award-
winning Kapolei Golf Club on O‘ahu, a par-72
championship course owned and operated by Pacific
Links Hawai‘i.
This year, a full-field of Champions Tour professionals will compete for a whopping $2.2 million in prize money, with the champion taking home a $330,000 winner’s purse. In addition to ‘13 champion Mark Wiebe, another stellar field is expected for the 2014 event. Last year, the Pacific Links Hawai‘i Championship welcomed rookies Rocco Mediate and Vijay Singh, World Golf Hall of Famers Fred Couples, Tom Kite, Nick Price, Hale Irwin, Isao Aoki and Sandy Lyle, 2013 Charles Schwab Cup winner Kenny Perry, and current Charles Schwab Cup leaders Bernhard Langer, Jay Haas, Jeff Sluman and David Frost. Notable rookies joining the Champions Tour in 2014 include Davis Love III, Scott Verplank, Lee Janzen, Jeff Maggert, among others.
“Since our first tournament in 2012, the Pacific Links Hawai‘i Championship has provided both players and golf fans with thrilling play and unforgettable experiences, but its impact off the fairways has been even more significant,” said Micah Kane, chief operating officer of Pacific Links Hawai‘i. “We hope kama‘āina and visitors will join us this year to cheer on the world’s top golfers, while helping the Pacific Links Hawai‘i Foundation fulfill its mission of strengthening the community in which we live and work.”
All proceeds from the 2014 Pacific Links Hawai‘i Championship will benefit the Pacific Links Hawai‘i Foundation – a non-profit organization that helps cultivate and sustain programs aiding Hawai'i’s ecosystem, keiki, and culture. With the success of last year’s tournament, the Pacific Links Hawai‘i Foundation gifted $200,000, with more than $100,000 provided to support watershed restoration and natural resource preservation initiatives on the Leeward Coast.
The Pacific Links Hawai‘i Championship has become one of the Tour’s most popular events as players compete for the coveted Charles Schwab Cup. The tournament winner, and any player finishing in the top 10 at the Pacific Links Hawai‘i Championship, will also earn valuable Charles Schwab Cup points. The season-long competition, now in its 14th season, is designed to recognize the Champions Tour’s leading player, rewarding week-in/week-out consistency in all official events. Players receive points for top-10 finishes and ties based on each week’s money distribution, with $1,000 earned being the equivalent of one Charles Schwab Cup point.
Additionally, the Pacific Links Hawai‘i Championship week will feature signature sponsor events, local promotions and live coverage made available to 206 countries and territories and 145 million potential households around the world via the The Golf Channel and the Tour’s international partners in Asia, Europe, Middle East, Latin America and Africa.
Tournament passes are $40 (valid Wednesday through Sunday); daily tickets are $15 (pre-sale) and $10 (Wednesday and Thursday) and $20 (Friday through Sunday) at the gate.
