Amateurs Beck, Burton finish second, third at Georgia Open
Jimmy Beck
KENNESAW, GA. (August 3, 2014) — While mini-tour professional Jay McLuen ran away with the Georgia Open on Sunday, setting a competitive course record at Pinetree Country Club, Kennesaw State University athletics were busy congratulating two of their own — Jimmy Beck and Kelby Burton — for their top-three finishes.
Beck, a native of Columbus, Ga., earned low amateur honors after shooting 67 on Sunday and finishing seven shots short of the winner in second place, yet four shots ahead of third place.
Burton, of Evans, Ga., shot a final-round 70 and finished in a tie for third with former Kennesaw State Owl Matt Nagy.
Sunday's victory was not the first for McLuen, as the golfer from Forsyth, Ga. won the event, also by seven strokes, back in 2011.
