PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (July 31, 2014) — After the first round of the South Carolina Amateur, Andrew Novak holds a four-shot lead over Ben Fogler and Ryan Carpenter. Only eight players managed to break par at The Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island, with Novak turning in seven-under par 65.
The 19-year-old Wofford College golfer made seven pars and two birdies on his first nine. Novak then caught fire, making three birdies and the only eagle of the day on his second nine.
Carpenter and Fogler, in second place, are four back after both shooting 69. Carpenter, an incoming Coastal Carolina golfer, made six birdies and three bogies on his round. Fogler was last year’s second place finisher and current Vanderbilt player.
