Porter Cup: Drakeford ahead of Hall by one
LEWISTON, N.Y. (July 24, 2014) -- Australia’s Geoff Drakeford overtook Gavin Hall for the second round lead at the Porter Cup on Thursday.
Drakeford fired a four-under 66 at Niagara Falls Country Club, and leads the field at seven-under 133 for two rounds.
The Australian had another up-and-down round today—he has made only 12 pars in 36 holes of play—but it’s working. He made two bogeys and a birdie in his first six holes to begin, then went eight straight holes without a par. He birdied the eighth through 11th holes, bogeyed 12, carded two more birdies on 13 and 14, and finished off the streak with another bogey on 15.
He added one more birdie on the way in to post 66.
Hall could not repeat his first round performance, as he followed up the first-round 64 with an even-par 70 on Thursday. He mixed in four birdies and four bogeys on the 6871-yard course, and now holds second place alone at six-under 134.
Dale Brandt-Richards, Stephane Dubois, and Denny McCarthy are tied for third at five-under 135.
