Easy victories for defending champ Johnson at Missouri Amateur

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (June 27, 2014) -- Defending champion and stroke play medalist Joey Johnson won his round of 32 and 16 matches on Friday at the Missouri Amateur.
He took down Teddy Jones 6&4 in the morning round, and went back out and downed Chris Martin 4&3 at Norwood Hills Country Club.
Johnson next plays 25-seed Michael Wootten, who won in the round of 32 with a 6&5 decision, then took Kyle Weldon 19 holes before prevailing with a birdie.
Second-seeded Skip Berkmeyer is also still in the mix at the Missouri Amateur, as he won his round of 32 match 4&3 against Phil Caravia, and went 21 holes in the round of 16 against Alex Cusumano. Berkmeyer faces 7-seed Joseph Atkisson in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on Saturday, with a 36-hole final match scheduled for Sunday.
