Virginia Amateur: Medalist Ball loses in extra holes
GORDONSVILLE, Va. (June 26, 2014) -- Stroke play medalist Adam Ball of VCU lost in the round of 16 on Thursday at the Virginia Amateur Championship.
After a 2&1 victory over John Dawson, Ball faced 17-seed Bryce Chalkley of Virginia Tech, who made his way into the round of 16 with an easy 5&3 victory over Doc Schulte.
Ball, who reached the quarterfinals in last year’s U.S. Amateur, made seven birdies on the day, but lost the last two holes with bogeys to send the match to a 19th hole. Chalkley parred it and Ball made bogey, sealing the upset and sending Chalkley to the quarterfinals.
